Raise your hand if you saw this one coming! After months of courtroom drama (and lots of paperwork), CBS has filed to drop its lawsuit against ABC that claimed the network ripped off the concept of Big Brother with The Glass House. Why the change of heart?
CBS has decided to bring ABC out of its legal limbo.
Months after filing a copyright infringement suit against ABC for allegedly stealing the format of their hit show, Big Brother, CBS is now putting an end to the dispute.
“The viewers have spoken and delivered the ultimate form of justice against The Glass House,” a rep for the network told E! News. “As a result, we filed in federal court this morning a voluntary dismissal without prejudice of our claims against ABC.”
But the courtroom battle wasn’t going too well for CBS anyway.
A judge previously denied their request to keep The Glass House from premiering on ABC, telling the network’s legal team that there wasn’t sufficient proof that the show’s existence would keep viewers from tuning in to Big Brother.
And apparently, he was right.
Recently, The Chicago Tribune reported that The Glass House ranked 87th among broadcast TV shows…87th!!
So essentially, just as we predicted, a lot of time and money was wasted over something that the television audience was going to settle anyway.
CBS could’ve spent those millions elsewhere.
And ABC? Well, they should probably be paying the few of us who’ve actually sat through this season of The Glass House.
